Report: EU to deem Russia sanctions breach criminal offense in 2 weeks
MOSCOW, May 11 (PRIME) -- The European Commission will offer to consider the violation of sanctions against Russia a criminal offense in two weeks, newspaper Politico reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
"The European Commission will present in two weeks a legal proposal to make the evasion of sanctions an E.U. crime — a step that will help member countries confiscate assets frozen as part of the sanctions campaign against Russia," the newspaper reported.
According to the sources cited by the newspaper, the measure would provide a legal framework for confiscation of frozen assets, since the current one varies from state to state.
